vSphere and consistent snapshots/replication?

Did I read somewhere that either now or planned "soon" there is an add-in for vCenter that will allow various clone snapshot/clone options of VM's or VMFS volumes held on Lefthand?

Re: vSphere and consistent snapshots/replication?

Are you talking about SmartClone? I know that was being billed as a big ESX feature, but it's already available.

I seem to remember something else, but I can't put my finger on it.

I'm not sure what I'm talking about that's the problem :-)

I'm sure I read that Lefthand were releasing a widget that would let you do consistent snapshots of VMFS or something along those lines?

All I remember reading was that it was going to integrate into vCenter.

Re: vSphere and consistent snapshots/replication?

I remember seeing what you are talking about, but I don't think it's released yet (someone else may correct me). Basically it was application controlled snapshots from ESX.

Smartclone is sharing the same base disk among any number of volumes.

But, I can tell you that I just use normal snapshots and have never had an issue with my VMWare implementation. But I can see the benefit of being able to quiesce the file system to ensure integrity.

Re: vSphere and consistent snapshots/replication?

HP were planning to release VMware vSphere 4.1 application integration (guest quiescing) soon after 4.1 was released. Does anyone from HP/Lefthand actually visit this forum? Perhaps they can shed some light? ;-)
