Getting ORA error when connecting to HPAM 5.21 windows client

Hi Experts,

When I try to connect to HPAM 5.21 windows client I am getting the below error message, could you please help me resolve it.

// Application: HP Asset Manager 5.21.8480 // Executable:  C:\Program Files (x86)\HP\Asset Manager 5.21 en\bin\am.ovl // User:        e211914

2014/01/29 12:02:24.169 0 1 [Thrd#:5024](-2006) Oracle error: ORA-12154: TNS:could not resolve the connect identifier specified 2014/01/29 12:02:24.169 0 1 [Thrd#:5024](-2006) Unable to connect to database 'AMP' (UserId='AM_ADMIN'). Oracle code=-1 2014/01/29 12:02:24.169 0 1 [Thrd#:5024](-2006) Unable to connect to this database engine.

And when I try - TNSPING, it doesnt give me any output as well.  HPAM 5.21 doesnt support Oracle 11.xxx version, I am not sure?

Appreciate your help!

Re: Getting ORA error when connecting to HPAM 5.21 windows client

Unable to connect to the Engine error means the application is not able to communicate with the database.

You would need to get an access to the Oracle server and check if you can connect to the instance.

Eg : go to the Ora command line sqlplus /nolog

connect sys/<password>@instancename as sysdba;

or

connect bujji/<password>@instancename as sysdba;

Once this works on the Oracle level only then the AM application would be able to connect to the engine.

Any Oracle level errors you would need to check with your DBA.
