HP Asset Manager (AM) Troubleshooting: How to Enable Logging to Help Diagnose a Problem

When a problem arises in HP Asset Manager, do you have difficulty troubleshooting in order to diagnose and fix it? Did you know that enabling AM logging can help you identify where and when an issue arose?  For example, if an LDAP authentication failed, the log can help you see the stage at which the LDAP protocol failed.  Logging also enables you to find the SQL query being executed -- just copy and paste the SQL query to run directly in the SQL client to determine what is going wrong.

Here are the 7 simple steps to enable Asset Manager (AM) logging:

  1. Log in to Asset Manager Windows client.
  2. Hold Ctrl key while clicking the Edit->Option menu to bring up the below options window.

3. Turn "AdbLog" ON (by default, this setting is off.

4. Set "Enable at startup" to YES.

5. Specify the "File Name", the file to which you want logging information stored.

6. Restart Asset Manager.

7. You will then be able to view the log info in the file specified in step 5.

Voila! It is that easy. For more information on troubleshooting in Asset Manager please visit the HP Asset Manager / Connect-IT Support and News Forum.
