Let’s talk SMAC. Do you have the right strategy to tame the beast?

Best of breed SMAC services (social, mobile, analytics, and cloud) can look great on paper. They can have all the bells and whistles you need to serve your user and organization demand. But as you know, there’s more to it. There are the pesky details behind the curtain that sit with you that you need to consider. These are desperate services that are now expanding your supply value chain. They are increasingly important to your environment; but they all do things differently, from how they are hosted, to their business model, pricing, etc… These services add complexity and it’s up to you to tame the beast so you retain control and governance.

 

This is the topic of the recent CIO Magazine article “How to Tame Social, Mobile, Analytics and Cloud Multisourcing”. In it, contributing author Stephanie Overby discusses these rapidly building complexities and gives approaches to ‘tame’ the multi-sourcing reality.

 

Overby points out that providers who have had their head in the sand about providing SMAC capabilities are making the situation worse. As a result, you the customers, have pushed hard and are insisting that they provide these capabilities. And, slowly they are. They are beginning to understand how critical these capabilities are for their customers and they are finally believing that SMAC services are here to stay.

 

Here are a few tips from the article to better manage the evolving multi-source environment:

1)            Include SMAC technologies in the strategy and planning to provide the best value

2)            Build deep SMAC expertise in your organization to best source solutions

3)            Develop a service integration and management strategy before employing SMAC services so you can onboard services with workable contracts and governance
