The F Word of Project Management: What Has it Taught You?

Brian McQuillan ‎06-17-2013 03:16 PM - edited ‎07-09-2015 08:24 PM

Yes folks, the F bomb that no one really likes to talk about. We know from the statistics and research from eminent groups like Standish and Gartner that over 60% of projects still fail, and that means that for the vast majority of those reading this blog post, you have been in a project that has 'gone south.'

So let me ask you....... What were the lessons you learned from a failed project? How did you assign accountability and responsibility? Dissect the results and ensure that what happened with that project doesn't happen with the next?

What controls did you have in place to measure status? Manage issues risk and scope? How regular were your checkpoints, status meetings and reviews?

Make no mistake though, even with the best controls in place, project failures will still happen, but it's how we manage the process of learning.

What we learn in failure, will lead us to success.

Hi Brian sorry but this has nothing to do with your article. I have 6 years experience with Hp Ppm in Absa Bank in South Africa, and have recently emigrated to New Zealand, and would like to get in touch with any companies using HP PPM here. Do you have any ideas?

Thanks in advance.
