Hi,
Does anyone tried to to monitor Ubuntu 10.04 HP Servers through SIM ?
I installed the following packages:
hp-health_*.deb
hp-snmp-agents_*.deb
hpsmh_*.deb
hp-smh-template_*.deb
Also checked a known bug in net-snmp (bound to 127.0.0.1 instead of 0.0.0.0). Firewall is disabled.
But still SIM could not recognize properly the system:
Major: The system cannot be identified properly for HP SIM to manage;
unable to get one or more of the following: model, serial number or
unique identifier (UUID).
********* Additional results (listed for information only):
* Checking for SNMP protocol support on system...
Normal: The system responded to an SNMP request; it supports SNMP Protocol
and has a valid read community string.
* Running HP ProLiant management agent identification...
Normal: The ProLiant SNMP Foundation agents for servers are not installed
or are not configured.
* Running HP NetServer identification...
Normal: System supports the NetServer SNMP agent, adding system type.
Normal: The system is not a server, storage or desktop. Skipping the check
for System Management Homepage.
* Running SNMP System Type manager ...
Normal: No matching SNMP System Type Manager rule for sysObjID was found.
* Running SNMP subtypes identification...
* No additional subtype(s) found from SNMP.

Re: Monitoring Ubuntu 10.04 ?
Have you tried to run Configure Repair Agent from HP SIM. You might have to use root to configure SNMP, but it will not save the root password for system credentials.

Re: Monitoring Ubuntu 10.04 ?
Hi, yes I tried it. Doesn't help, though root/password was OK.
