test wbem trap
Hi,
I use hp insight manager 7.1 for manage windows server and esxi 5 server.
For win server I use snmp trap for esxi 5 I use wbem trap.
For test snmp trap on windows server I use "HP managment agent" that send trap on sim server.
How Could I test wbem trap on esxi server?
thanks

Re: test wbem trap
- First, be sure you have all the providers fully installed (HP need special version of ESXI).
- Secondly, ensure you have subscribe to WBEM events from your ESXI server.
- Finally, don't forget in the EVENT Filter settings to accept unregistered events.
From then, to test events you have the old technic of removing a hard drive if you can do it. This generates an Error in the RAID config, mentionning one of the hard drive is not present. Replacing the hard drive will then correct the problem.
If you have done everything, this will generate an event in your HP SIM server.

Re: test wbem trap
Yes
I installed:
- hp esxi offline bundle
- subscribe to WBEM events
- setting EVENT Filter settings to accept unregistered events
then I removed power supply and I receive trap on sim
But if I have a server that I cannot unplug power supply (because server room is in another place) Could I check wbem trap?
thanks

Re: test wbem trap
You can test WBEM event trap from the "Configure or Repair Settings" menu.
At first, select next without reinstalling any agent on the target, then you have the possibility to make a test.
The option name is "Send a sample WBEM / WMI indication to this instance of HP SIM to test that events appear in HP SIM event lists."
This should generate a WBEM event.
I don't know any other way to do so. Maybe from the CLI of ESXi, running a command line but never heard about that. You could try a script, upload it to your ESXi host, and run it from the command line.

Re: test wbem trap
Hello,
YOu can't there is no test trap you can send. You can test the communication from SIM itself. Select the server(s).
Now select Configure > Manage Communications, select servers if needed and Run Now. The results are:
- Can i read the system ?
- Can i get events ?
- Can i run tools
- Can i read the firmware and drivers
Hope that helps.
