Creating an Ignite Image of a Virtual Host (VSE-OE)
First let me just clarify my Ignite server is not running on VSE-OE or a VM.
I've been creating (network) Ignite images of my HP-UX Virtual Host (VSE-OE) and VMs (BOE) for a while now. The Ignite images of the VMs work a treat (both creating and restoring). The creation of the Ignite images of the Virtual Host appears to work fine (successful with no errors reported).
Anyhow, IтАЩm just in the process of trying to formalise the backup strategy on my network and when looking at sizing, have noticed something oddтАж
Ignite server: grefcp30
Virtual host: york
VM1: vgrefcp40
VM2: vgrefsp41
If I look at the size of the archivesтАж
root@grefcp30:/var/opt/ignite/recovery/archives# ls -lR york vgref*
vgrefcp40:
total 27145280
-rw------- 1 bin sys 4434955504 Nov 24 16:38 2015-11-24,16:05
-rw------- 1 bin sys 4721110512 Nov 30 14:22 2015-11-30,13:51
-rw------- 1 bin sys 4742291445 Dec 4 15:13 2015-12-04,14:41
vgrefsp41:
total 27029952
-rw------- 1 bin sys 4434016801 Nov 23 09:41 2015-11-23,09:08
-rw------- 1 bin sys 4692260331 Nov 24 13:28 2015-11-24,12:56
-rw------- 1 bin sys 4713024248 Dec 4 15:12 2015-12-04,14:39
york:
total 18896078
-rw------- 1 bin sys 4820708277 Nov 9 16:46 2015-11-09,16:18
-rw------- 1 bin sys 4854041827 Dec 4 15:03 2015-12-04,14:35
root@grefcp30:/var/opt/ignite/recovery/archives#
This doesnтАЩt seem to stack up.
On machine york, I have 2 volume groups vg00 and vgvm.
If I do a vgdisplay on vgvm, it shows 2 logical volumes - /dev/vgvm/lv_vgrefcp40 and lv_vgrefsp41.
When the Ignite image was made of york, it did an тАШinc_entireтАЩ of both vg00 and vgvm. So I would have expected the Ignite image of york to be in the order of 12GB, but as you can see itтАЩs not.
IтАЩve had a look in the archive file (2015-12-04,14:35) and thereтАЩs no mention of anything other than vg00.
So why isnтАЩt it including vgvm?
BTW, if I do a тАШbdfтАЩ it doesnтАЩt mention vgvm.
Many thanks,
Gary

Re: Creating an Ignite Image of a Virtual Host (VSE-OE)
What does your Ignite log say for that system? Does it show that both VGs are being backed up? Keep in mind that the Ignite image files are gzip'ed files. If you look through the whole file do any of your non-VG00 file systems show up?
For example:
# gzcat 2015-12-04,14:35 | tar -tvf -
will show the contents of the file.

Re: Creating an Ignite Image of a Virtual Host (VSE-OE)
Hi Patrick,
Thanks for your reply. The log say's that it's backed up both VGs, but as I say, there are no vgvm files in the archive (I had already used the command that you suggest to check).
Best regards,
Gary

Any reason you want to back up more than vg00 with ignite?
It's not to be a general backup tool, just something to enable you to restore the OS.
