Ignite backup and Recovery on LTO5 tape

I have a MSL tape Library connected through SAN (FC) to one of BL860c i2 server with 11.31.

Is it possible to take Ignite backup of that Server on LTO5 tape and later on restore it using the same Tape.

Yes, any tape drive that can be seen by HP-UX will work. Ignite knows nothing about loading a tape from the library so you must the the mc command to select the tape, then unload it and place it back into a storage slot.

In case you want to make a recovery from tape, you need to follow the 2-step recovery solution: Boot from the Ignite UX server/hp-ux installation media and then recover from tape. The ignite version of the ignite archive and the ignite server/ installation media should be the same.....

Shalom,

Writing the backup is easy, that will work with almost any tape drive.

Recovering the system requires a tape drive that is specifically supported for Ignite boot, or the two step boot and restore solution.

Definitely a good idea to have a bootable DVD built for recovering systems anyway.

A slightly easier solution to deal with is make_net_recovery based backup. All you need is a read-write NFS mount point to store the backups. That an an Ignite server and you are in good shape to recover systems.
