Ignite image restore issues

Hi ,

We have taken ignite of 600GB O.S disk 11iv3 and trying to restore it on 139GB disks  we are facing issue.

Anyone else has faced the same ?

Even after modifying all volumes / , /stand , /var , /usr we are still not able to restore ignite .

OK, the disk is much smaller, but what is the issue you are talking about? Size problem? What is the message you get? I assume you have tried to adjust the LVOL size.

Hope this helps!

You have multiple 139 GB disks, how many?

Re: Ignite image restore issues

Ignite is a bare metal recovery tool designed for vg00. It is not a general purpose backup program. A reasonable setup for HP-UX vg00 will fit on an 18 GB disk, although those small sizes are no longer available. If your vg00 has multiple 139 GB disks, you have a very poor layout and require extra work to manage the volumes.

If you have a choice, you should reduce vg00 to just the OS lvols (/stand  /  /var  /tmp  /usr /opt  /home), and move any other lvols to a separate VG. Now you can backup vg00 with Ignite in less than an hour (rather than 10-20 hours and several tapes needed for 600 GB).

We're all guessing here because we can't see what vg00 and bdf are showing. How many tapes did it take to backup 600 GB?

Re: Ignite image restore issues

Hi Bill,

On 600GB OS 1 disk it is ;

root #/ >bdf |grep vg00
/dev/vg00/lvol3 10485760 495136 9912592 5% /
/dev/vg00/lvol1 2097152 385848 1697984 19% /stand
/dev/vg00/lvol8 52428800 14245360 37885376 27% /var
/dev/vg00/lvol7 20971520 4032192 16807016 19% /usr
/dev/vg00/lvol6 20971520 12235712 8667600 59% /tmp
/dev/vg00/lvol9 31457280 13054072 17253063 43% /oracle
/dev/vg00/lvol5 20971520 8408032 12465400 40% /opt
/dev/vg00/lvol4 15728640 1685168 13933832 11% /home

We would like to restore the same on 139GB disk only 1 disk ;

We can shrink filesystem layout during interactive installation  right ?
