golden Image, nfs mount, boot error

Hello Experts,

I am using hp-ux 11.31 on rx6600. I have created a HP Integrity Virtual machines and trying to boot it from the golden image created on the physical host.

I have created golden image but when trying to boot getting below error:

1. nfs mount: 10.1.42.5:/var/opt/ignite/clients: Permission denied
NOTE:    Retrying: "/sbin/fs/nfs/mount -orw 10.1.42.5:/var/opt/ignite/clients
         /var/opt/ignite/clients"
nfs mount: 10.1.42.5:/var/opt/ignite/clients: Permission denied
NOTE:    NFS mount (/sbin/fs/nfs/mount -orw 10.1.42.5:/var/opt/ignite/clients
         /var/opt/ignite/clients) failed, see messages above.

2. * Download_mini-system:  Complete
       * Loading_software:  Begin
       * Installing boot area on disk.
       * Formatting HP Service Partition.
       * Enabling swap areas.
       * Number of archives to install: 1
       * Processing the archive source (HP-UX Golden Image).
nfs mount: 10.1.42.5:/var/opt/ignite/archives/Rel_B.11.31: Permission denied
NOTE:    Retrying: "/sbin/fs/nfs/mount -oro
         10.1.42.5:/var/opt/ignite/archives/Rel_B.11.31

ERROR:   Cannot load OS archive(s) (HP-UX Golden Image)

The configuration process has incurred an error, choose one of the following options

        1) abort and reboot
        2) ignore error and continue
        3) push a shell for troubleshooting the problem
(At any time within the shell, type "exit" to return to this menu)

# showmount -a
rx6600:/var/opt/ignite/clients
rx6600:/var/opt/ignite/recovery/golden_images
# showmount -e
export list for rx6600:
/var/opt/ignite/clients              10.1.42.5
/var/opt/ignite/archives/Rel_B.11.31 10.1.42.5

Please help how to resolve thsi issue. Tried everything from my side but not able to resolve this.

Regards,

You could allow every machine to mount it if you can't figure out the right FQDN or IP.

Re: golden Image, NFS mount, boot error

10.1.42.5 is the same physical server on which ignite image I am creating and also HP Integrity virtual machine is created on this host only. Both the server is connected to a dedicated swith with no vlans created.

where I need to look to fix this error, "nfs mount: 10.1.42.5:/var/opt/ignite/clients: Permission denied"

This is a problem on the NFS server.  The NFS client isn't on the list of clients that can access the share RW.

Re: golden Image, NFS mount, boot error

Please find details :

showmount -e
export list for rx6600:
/var/opt/ignite/clients              10.1.42.5
/var/opt/ignite/archives/Rel_B.11.31 10.1.42.5

Here both /var/opt/ignite/clients have rw=10.1.42.5

/var/opt/ignite/archives/Rel_B.11.31 rw=10.1.42.5

Now where to look for the root cause.

Re: golden Image, NFS mount, boot error

10.1.42.5 is the IP of the NFS server.  What is the IP of the VM, the NFS client?

What does /usr/sbin/share show?

SIce there is no OS on the vm so no IP assigned, but I have edited /etc/opt/ignite/instl_boottab and given the IP 10.1.42.12 which i want to give to VM.

tail /etc/opt/ignite/instl_boottab
# Example: (lines are intentionally commented out)
# 15.1.54.125 # IP address usable by any client
# 15.1.54.126:080009123456:19960116132331 # Entry usable by all (used already)
# 15.1.54.127:::reserve # Reserve this entry once used.
# 15.1.54.138:080009123457::reserve       # Reserve an IP-Addr for specific host

currently no access to server since it is midnight so can't share  /usr/sbin/share show  o/p, will be able to share by morning only.

Re: golden Image, NFS mount, boot error

The latest Ignite/UX Administration manual is located here:

http://h20566.www2.hp.com/portal/site/hpsc/template.BINARYPORTLET/public/kb/docDisplay/resource.process/?spf_p.tpst=kbDocDisplay_ws_BI&spf_p.rid_kbDocDisplay=docDisplayResURL&javax.portlet.begCacheTok=com.vignette.cachetoken&spf_p.rst_kbDocDisplay=wsrp-resourceState%3DdocId%253Demr_na-c04015128-2%257CdocLocale%253Den_US&javax.portlet.endCacheTok=com.vignette.cachetoken

Here are the NFS options that the manual recommends (located on page 94 of the link above):

2. Set up NFS exports and check custom configuration files.

Because of preexisting Ignite-UX file system layouts, the locations of certain files are automatically moved when Ignite-UX Version C.7.9 or later is installed . These files are /opt/ ignite/Version, /var/opt/ignite/INDEX, and /var/opt/ignite/config.local.

In addition, certain other customer-created config files might need to be moved or edited.

First, edit /etc/exports or /etc/dfs/dfstab as appropriate for the version of HP-UX running on the Ignite-UX server.

For Ignite servers running HP-UX 11i v2 or earlier:

# cat /etc/exports
/opt/ignite/data -ro
/var/opt/ignite/config -ro
/var/opt/ignite/data -ro
/var/opt/ignite/clients -anon=2

# exportfs -a

For Ignite servers running HP-UX 11i v3:

# cat /etc/dfs/dfstab
share -F nfs -o ro /opt/ignite/data
share -F nfs -o ro /var/opt/ignite/data
share -F nfs -o anon=2 /var/opt/ignite/clients

# shareall

If there are any customer-created config files that are outside of the directories exported by NFS, they must be moved under /var/opt/ignite/data.
