10GbE Pass-Thru Module in Superdome 2 - documentation

Documentation for the 10GbE Pass-Thru Module in Superdome 2 is hard to find. Found the User Guide but need a link for the Installation Instructions which the user guide refers to.

Have this product in Superdome 2:

HP Integrity 10GbE Pass-Thru Module AT084A

Starting from the product page for the corresponding BladeSystem part:

HP 10GbE Ethernet Pass-Thru Module for c-Class BladeSystem 538113-B21

Clicking on Support & Documents goes to a page with product photo but no name and no manuals listed. Finally clicking Support & Drivers on the product page goes to an old driver version from 2010 which said "Download the firmware binary then refer to the 10GbE Pass-Thru Module User Guide pages 14-17 for complete installation instructions" and it provided a link to the User Guide which is how I found it.

In the User Guide it says this:

Configure the 10GbE Pass-Thru Module after installation. Detailed information about how to configure the
pass-thru module is available in 10GbE Pass-Thru Module Installation Instructions for HP BladeSystem cClass Enclosures

Searching directly in Business Support Center for either part number finds nothing.

And the Integrity part is not listed here:

The Users guide that is referenced here speak about the generic document located here:

http://h18004.www1.hp.com/products/blades/components/c-class-tech-installing.html

Search for the keyword "pass" and you will see the install ins for the pass-through model. This one was written around 2011 for 1GBE, and 4 GB FC

Re: 10GbE Pass-Thru Module in Superdome 2 - documentation

Since you cannot have mezzanine cards on the blades, you can install the pass-thru modules in bays 1 and 2 only. They will route the LOMs of the blades. The port mapping page from OA will show you the locations.

BTW, no virtual connect in SD2!

:-)

Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Re: 10GbE Pass-Thru Module in Superdome 2 - documentation

2 items are important during installation:

1. verify the low level FRU on the 10GB PT module in OA CLI using: show update
    if there is a never version listed it is already embedded and available in the OA using the CLI command update device xx
2. verify the 10GB PT module firmware. You can find more information in this document that I made incl. a video: http://bit.ly/YunPfe

enjoy! Jeroen

Re: 10GbE Pass-Thru Module in Superdome 2 - documentation

Since the SD2 is still another universe - as long as there is no proliant in it - this could be different compared to the c7000 ...keep in mind the OA is not the same ...

Hope this helps!

Torsten.

@boukari

Thanks for your reply. The first link you provided is not for the Pass-Thru module but is for a Switch module.

@aouadi

Thanks for your reply. The link you provided is for the same User Guide that I had already found. I was instead looking for the Installation Instructions that the User Guide refers to.

Re: 10GbE Pass-Thru Module in Superdome 2 - documentation

Okay, this led me the Installation Instructions for the older model.

It would be nice if the documentation could be updated to cover the 10GbE module. Or the documentation exists but it is a website problem in that it cannot be found. I guess I will have to open a support case to get this.

@Greg Tinker
Thanks for your solution.
