Boot an Itanium server with a system disk created by other Itanium server

Hi,

Does anyone know if it is possible to move the 2nd LVM mirrored system disk from one Itanium server, and then insert the disk into another new Itanium server and then boot the system up successfully?

I believe there should be some procedures to be done on the new Itanium server to modify the metadata on the disk to make it work. Just need to know the exact procedures.

hi,

if you shutdown the system before it should be possible if you have HW enablement bundle installed, but would recommend you to use ignite for this.

go to => www.hp.com/go/Ignite-UX

or you could use DRD for cloning of the disk.

go to =>

You probably need to adjust the hardware pathes for the root volume group by booting into maintenance mode and doing a vgexport/vgimport of vg00.

Hope this helps!

Use Ignite and the "-x inc_entire=vg00" option to transfer the OS you want to the other server. When you recover on the new server use interactive.

Unfortunately we need shorter down time to get this job done. Though Ignite-UX will do, but it takes too much time to recover the system. I need a way to fast boot a server in 1 hour, that's why I'm thinking using the LVM mirrored disk.

Can anyone provide the detailed SOP?

While using the LVM mirrored drive you should at least shutdown the server before pulling the disk.

With DRD you don't need a downtime at all.

With fast hardware an ignite restore should take around 30...40 min, so you can be within this 1hour window too.

Hope this helps!
