Getting to an ISL prompt on a itanium rx6600

# model
ia64 hp server rx6600
#

When I boot this server, I'd like to get to an ISL prompt (or whatever it is called now) so I can run a sea for bootable devices

I've attempted to stop the boot process, but it's not the same as it was on the PA-RISC..

How is this done now on the itaniums?

Thank you for your assistance :)

Re: Getting to an ISL prompt on a itanium rx6600

Hi,

Itanium (Integrity) servers use the HP EFI Boot manager, which is quite different to the ISL found on PA-RISC servers. The ISL, SEA options will not work in the EFI shell.

The "map -b" (-b to output 1 screen at a time) command needs to be used at the EFI prompt to list the bootable devices. The bootable devices normally start with fs#: (where # is
a number such as 0, 1, 2, 3, etc.)

Type the corresponding bootable device, for e.g.
shell> fs2 (fs2 becomes the boot device)
fs2> hpux (to start loading HP-UX)

Good luck!

Sorry for the double post. I found a link with lot more details:

(look under Booting from an Alternate Boot Device section)

Re: Getting to an ISL prompt on a itanium rx6600

If you are familiar with BCH commands and want to know EFI commends, try this:

Shell> help bch
------------- Main Menu -----------------
Command Type at shell prompt:
------- ---------------------
COnfiguration help bch co
INformation help bch in
PAth help bch pa
ScRoll help bch sr
SEArch help bch sea
SERvice help bch ser
BOot help bch bo
HElp help bch he
RESET help bch reset
MAin help bch ma

For a quick list of all BCH to shell command translations, type:
help bch list

For more information on BCH help, at the shell prompt type:
help bch he

Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.
