Extending a LUN on EVA3000 and LVM considerations
Hi
I m running 11.31 on RP server
I have a 400GB LUN which I want to extend to 500GB on an EVA3000.
It is mounted, but no data requires migrating.
Is it as simple as doing the following?
unmount the volume
increase the requested capacity from 400 to 500 on command view
wait for it to level out
lvextend the volume to -L 512000
extend the FS
mount the volume
Is it as simple as that?

Re: Extending a LUN on EVA3000 and LVM considerations
It depends on which release of HP-UX 11.31 you have. According to the following document, you can use vgmodify to expand LUNs in Version 1.0 volume groups with the September 2008 release. The March 2009 release added support for LUN expansion of Version 2.X volume groups.

Re: Extending a LUN on EVA3000 and LVM considerations
Jeff
We're patched to March 2010. I ran lvmadm -l and it shows the VGs are version 1.0.
So I take it I need to use vgmodify then?

Re: Extending a LUN on EVA3000 and LVM considerations
That would seem to be the case. According to the vgmodify man page, the syntax would be:
vgmodify -a -E /dev/vg00 /dev/rdisk/disk1
Of course, your VG name and disk device file may vary.

Re: Extending a LUN on EVA3000 and LVM considerations
I trust no mounting/unmounting is required.
Also, will I need to extend the Logical Volume?

Re: Extending a LUN on EVA3000 and LVM considerations
Sorry, one more thing.
We are using scripts to snapclone certain volumes, this being one of them. Will LUN numbers and WWNs be maintained after DLE?

Re: Extending a LUN on EVA3000 and LVM considerations
Yur core version is march 2009!!! ==> HPUX11i-BOE B.11.31.0903 HP-UX Base Operating Environment
You need to use "update_ux" to update this version!
Hope this helps!

Re: Extending a LUN on EVA3000 and LVM considerations
According to this doc:
Using the vgmodify command to perform LVM Volume Group Dynamic LUN Expansion (DLE) and Contraction (DLC)
The Core OS, the patch level, and the version of VGs (1.0) support our requirement for Online DLE using vgmodify.
