Re: Physical Volume contains no LVM information

Previous poster s are right.

The disk has the "wrong" bock size, because it was used in a virtual array before (520 vs. 512 blocks)

diskinfo reports the following info:
diskinfo /dev/rdsk/c4t0d0
SCSI describe of /dev/rdsk/c4t0d0:
vendor: HP 73.4G
product id: ST373405FC
type: direct access
size: 140000000 Kbytes
bytes per sector: 520

You need to re-format it back to 512 blocks using Commandview SDM.

Hope this helps!

Re: Physical Volume contains no LVM information

Thank you, all. I'm in the process of getting CommandView so that I can use the JBODfmt command.

Re: Physical Volume contains no LVM information

As reported above, reformatting the disks to 512-byte sectors using JBODfmt (from HP CommandView SDM) was the solution. The format does take an extremely long time to finish with no indication of status as it works. You just have to check on the status periodically by using a diskinfo command.

Once the drives were reformatted, the pvcreate and vgcreate commands worked perfectly.

Thanks to all!
