"To many links" HP-UX 11.11

I'm getting this error (To many links) when trying to add additional space (drive to) vg01.

I understaned reason for this is that "Max PE = 16" in /etc/lvmtab (which is default).

The question is, how do I change "Max PE" to 255 with out of deleting and recreating vg01 in 11.11 version?

Is there a way to install "vgmodify" binary (which is available on 11.23 and higher), with out of upgrading OS?

Thank you,

Miro Vran

Re: "To many links" HP-UX 11.11

Talking about MAX PV by chance?

Please show your vgdisplay -v.

You maybe just have too many alternate pathes?

Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Re: "To many links" HP-UX 11.11

Alternate links do not count against your MAX PV parameter in a VG.

VGMODIFY does allow you to reset the MAX PV parameter on the VG.  However prior to HP-UX 11.31 the VG has to be deactivated before you use VGMODIFY.

I don't think VGMODIFY is available for general download.  It **MIGHT** be available somewhere online if you were to search via Google, but not guarantees.

Re: "To many links" HP-UX 11.11

Thank you for the reply. So if I get my hands on " vgmodify " binary, I would be able to use it on 11.11?

I do have support with "CSU Industries", but they never heard of using " vgmodify " on 11.11 and that's why Im looking for additional resources for advice ...

Re: "To many links" HP-UX 11.11

vgmodify is only supported with 11.23 and 11.31.

MAX PV is not counted for alternate paths, but there is a maximum for them too.

Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: "To many links" HP-UX 11.11

For vg01 you already hit the maximum of physical volumes:

Max PV 16
Cur PV 16
Act PV 16

Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Re: "To many links" HP-UX 11.11

VGMODIFY is, or at least used to be, available for HP-UX 11.11 as I used it at a previous job.  I think I got it from HP support though.

I don't know if it is still available for 11.11 though.
