Shalom,

SHLIB_PATH is generally used on HP-UX systems to set a path where libraries and other important programs for software compilation and operation takes place.

It is like an execution path, but includes software libraries and such handy items.

This variable is generally not used in Linux, which uses LDLIBRARY_PATH for the same general purpose.
