generating pa-risc-binaries on itanium

Hello,
I have 2 (related) questions:
1.) is it possible to compile and link to pa-risc objects/executables on an itanium-machine?
I think, it is possible the other way (thanks to aries), but unfortunatly I have actually only 2 itaniums for development, and a mixed itanium/pa-risc production environment, where the binaries are supposed to run.
2.) is it possible for the executable, to use shared libraries (mostly Oracle 9i) or do I have to do static linking?

Thanks in advance, Stefan

Re: generating pa-risc-binaries on itanium

Hi,

Fornwhat I read you need an emulator to run PA code on itanium based server.
Not sure this works the other way around (itanium code on PA-RISC)

you can start here :

http://devresource.hp.com/drc/STK/PA_Integrity.jsp

Re: generating pa-risc-binaries on itanium

Thanks for the input. On http://devrsrc1.external.hp.com/STK/performport.html I found the following note:
Build and test on the destination platform

Note:
When you compile or link your software on HP-UX 11.x on PA, all objects (archive libraries, shared libraries, and .o object files) must have been built on the same major HP-UX release (for example, either 10.x or 11.x). On IPF, only native compile and link actions are supported and all objects must have been built native to IPF.

So I think, I have to build a pa-risc development machine.

Re: generating pa-risc-binaries on itanium

Yes, you need a PA development system. You cannot build PA binaries on Itanium, and you cannot run Itanium binaries on PA. And you cannot mix PA and IA objects into the same executable.
