How to configure Full Duplex Mirroring with two NetRAID adapters ?

I have an LH6000 server with two cabinets and two different NetRAID adapters. I want to configure a Full Duplex Mirroring: I want to mirror a disk connected to the adapter-0 with a disk connected to the adapter-1. But ! NetRAID Assistant only allows me to configure Mirrors using the disks connected to one of the adapters. How can I select two disks: One on each adapter???

HP does not have a controller that allow you span across 2 Netraid controllers. This is not possible.

Sure?
I' ve read that what I' m trying to do is called DUPLEXING in the HP-vocabulary: Redundancy on the disks and also on the adapters.
Are they talking about something not posible to do?

I am an HPUX guy . The type of mirroring you are talking about has been with HP9000 HP-UX servers since long time .

I would be very very surprised if its not on netservers .

Re: How to configure Full Duplex Mirroring with two NetRAID adapters ?

Hi, David.

It's a different thing:

You mean spanning an array across adapters

*BUT* redundancy is having the same array controlled via two adapters.

For implementing such a thing you'll need to flash the netraid for cluster support (so that you can change one of the adapters to SCSI ID 6) and connecting the disk cabinet you're using to both controllers.

Anyway, I don't know if such a configuration is supported or not.

Re: How to configure Full Duplex Mirroring with two NetRAID adapters ?

hi

duplexing only applies in various channels netraid cards (like 3Si, 4m) but NEVER in two different netraid cards

in this kind of cards you see all channels in the NetRAID Assistant program, and you can select disk in diferent channels to define a LUN

hope this help you

Re: How to configure Full Duplex Mirroring with two NetRAID adapters ?

Hi again, David.

There is a way you can do what you want:

You can only select disks on one adapter, that is a fact.

*BUT* If you have an adapter with multiple channels (2si, 3si or 4m) you'll be able to select devices from different channels. This will allow you to mirror one JBOD to the other.

By reading your question I suspect you have two 1m NetRAIDs or the integrated NetRAIDs on the system or I/O board of your server. This way you won't be able to do what you want.

I will investigate if it can be done with two NetRAIDs 4m.

Best regards.
Xavier.
