SNMP temperature MIB??

I need to monitor the internal temperature of several of our LP2000r servers. Is there an SNMP MIB that can get that data? If so, what is it? I would use Network Node Manager to pull the information.

Thanks,

Jeff

Re: SNMP temperature MIB??

Hi Jeff,

I don't know which operating system is running on the server but if it's NT/2K or 2k3, you could use Instant Top Tools for monitoring all your sensors. You can download it here: ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software2/COL3288/ns-11142-1/itt_win2003_win2000_nt40_555_2.exe

This will not only report all your temperature sensor readings but also fan speeds, memory failures, firmware revisions, and driver versions.

If you are running a different O/S such as Unix or NetWare, I couldn't give you any advice other than running ITT from the Navigator CD. I believe this would require downing the server and booting from the Navigator CD, though.

Hope this helps,

Sean

Re: SNMP temperature MIB??

Jeff,

Here are the netserver MIB's. This should have what you need.

Re: SNMP temperature MIB??

Greg,

I downloaded and installed those MIBS. Do you know what the OID is for one that will get the temperature reading from the temp sensors?

Thanks,

Jeff

Re: SNMP temperature MIB??

Jeff,

Temperature monitoring would be part of the overall system health. Some of the MIB's are specific to just DIMM mgmnt, SCSI, RAID, PCI, ect..

The hpnetctz.mib appears to monitor health traps.
--hpHttpMgTraps
-- hpHttpMgHealthTrap (deprecated)
-- hpHttpMgShutdown (deprecated)
-- hpHttpMgUnknownHealthTrap
-- hpHttpMgOKHealthTrap
-- hpHttpMgWarningHealthTrap
-- hpHttpMgCriticalHealthTrap
-- hpHttpMgNonRecoverableHealthTrap
-- hpHttpMgDeviceAddedTrap
-- hpHttpMgDeviceRemovedTrap

-- NOTE - For those who want to implement a trap destination table, we
-- recommend using the trap destination section of the ICF mib.

I am not an expert on MIB's so I will have to do some more research as well.

hth,
Greg

Re: SNMP temperature MIB??

I have the same problem and want to know the OID of cpu temprature.
I looked in the MIB files of your mail and I find the definition of the trap but not the OID for read the value with a simple SNMP Get.
Have you other informations ?
Thank you

How can I get the value of the temperature sensors with a simple SNMP get command of the proliant servers with installed HP Agents?

Re: SNMP temperature MIB??

You should really open a new thread, the hardware is totally different.

Hope this helps!
