NAS 4000s and LDAP

We want to be able to mount /home via NFS for many thousands of users, most of whom are in an LDAP directory. A much smaller subset of users are kept in an Active Directory, which the NAS will use, but we don't want to scale our AD to accomodate all these other occasional users when we have a perfectly good directory in LDAP to authenticate them. There are far too many users to contemplate the manual method of user mapping, and we abandoned NIS a long time ago and can't really picture going back there.

Has anyone had any success in using LDAP with a StorageWorks NAS? Is there any way to hook an AD to an existing LDAP?
