Auto Port aggegiation in hp-ux 11.31 Blade 860C

Hello Expert,

As per management request I need to configure auto port aggregation in 2 of our bl860C server having hp-ux 11.31 with having Oracle RAC.

In the network card it is showing

lan2                 Not Configured

lan0                 10.0.1.15

lan0:801         10.0.1.17

lan1                   Not Configured

lan3                   10.0.253.17

Here Lan0 (10.0.115) is my physical IP and lan0:801 (10.0.1.17) is the public virtual IP.

Please guide how to configure auto port aggregation for thsi setup and how to manage lan0:801 if I do apa between lan0 and lan2.

Appreciate for any help.

Regards

Re: Auto Port aggegiation in hp-ux 11.31 Blade 860C

Do you wish to utilize APA for both physical and virtual interfaces or just one?  Why not use lan1 and lan2 to build the APA interface (lan900) and then migrate the interface(s) as required?

Re: Auto Port aggegiation in hp-ux 11.31 Blade 860C

Hi,

I am planning to do APA only for the physical and leave the virtual interface of Oracle RAC without touching it.

I can go by using lan1 and lan2 for creating APA for physical.

Could you please help me out with the steps to do this configuration.

Apprecaite your support.

Use the 'smh' command to start the management homepage menu. Select networking, networking interfaces and then apa.  Press 'c' to start the configuration.  The wizard should get things started for you.

View the manual I posted earlier for details on options, etc.

Lastly, know that ports on the network switch will need to be configured properly as well.

So I will go with the APA configurations for lan1 and lan2 leaving lan0 as it is. Is it fine this way?

Well, the only thing you will need to be concerned of is the IP address changes.  You cant just remove lan0 without removing the virtual IP, but you can change its IP address of course.

Re: Auto Port aggegiation in hp-ux 11.31 Blade 860C

Alright.. Thanks alot Bob

So I will tro to follow these steps

1. remove the IP address from lan0 for physical interface only. leaving the lan0:801 (virtual IP) as it is.

2. Configure the APA for lan1 & lan2

3. Assign the same IP of lan0 (Physical interface) to the new APA configured.

Is it fine?

Re: Auto Port aggegiation in hp-ux 11.31 Blade 860C

Looks good, but I dont think you can remove the IP, but rather change it.  Even if its to something like 0.0.0.0

Of course you should do this from the system console and not through a network connection you are going to change :-)
