Good things do come in small packages—especially when it pertains to IT!

Kevin SecinoThis small device might not look like much, but it certainly packs a punch when looking at the solutions flexible connectivity choices. Let’s touch upon the timing of the launch of this device. Just in time for the educational market buying season, this solution is ideal for any average size room.

Let’s talk about the timing of the wave 1 802.11ac technology. A number of companies have introduced 802.11ac wave 1 product into the market, yet there were a limited number of client devices supporting the increased performance seen in wave 1.

HP believes this is perfect timing to introduce the only 802.11ac innovative WallJack solution, the HP517 (pictured below). The HP517 is designed for Higher Ed colleges & university dorm rooms as well as the hotel/hospitality industry and health care environments.

It’s what I call a unified “multi-function” device. Why you ask am I calling this a multifunction device? Well like its predecessor the MSM317, the new walljack has 4 gig Ethernet ports and one port w/PoE, an additional pass through port, as well as an integrated 802.11ac access point. The unit is completely manageable either via the console port or with HP’s enterprise caliber and very powerful Intelligent Management Center (IMC)(Single Pane-of-Glass Wired and wireless application)

Its concentrated RF (radio frequency) footprint is ideal -for dorm room or hotel/patient room size environments. HP was the first company to introduce this technology approximately 5 years ago when it brought to market the MSM317—and as most innovative technology is introduced, it didn’t take long for other companies to follow suit.

When I purchase something new, I consider the risk I may be taking, especially if it’s an unknown or niche company. Questions I usually ask myself include; how long has the company been in business? Is the company profitable? What type of service does the company provide, are they a recognized industry leader? With HP, you have a world leader in the industry, a Gartner Magic Quadrant industry leader for unified wired and wireless, global reach and support systems, and last but not least industry leading lifetime warranties that come with up to 3 years of free telephone support.

See how HP and HP Networking can help solve you communication challenges.
