Network snoop utility for HP-UX

Does HP-UX have a utility like snoop on Solaris machines? If so what is it. If not what tool can be used to monitor network traffic on an HP-UX 11.0 system.

Thanks,

Re: Network snoop utility for HP-UX

The HP "equivalent" is to use nettl, which is installed with the OS, or download ethereal from the HP-UX software/porting center at:

Re: Network snoop utility for HP-UX

James,

I've used Nettl before, but I've also found another answer to your question. How about a sniffer caled Snort?

Here's the description:

snort-1.6.b7

A libpcap based packet sniffer and logger. It can be used as a lightweight network intrusion detection system. It can perform content
searching and can detect a variety of other attacks and probes, such as buffer overflows, port scans CGI attacks, SMB probes, and much
more.

You can get a copy (FREE) for HP-UX 10.20 or 11.x.

Go to this Page:

Hope that helps!

Re: Network snoop utility for HP-UX

A great tool your looking for is nettl. There is a nice GUI version available called nettladm. It is called the Network Tracing and Logging Administrator. It hides all the command line version stuff from you. From nettladm man page... "The nettladm command starts a menu-driven program that makes it easy to perform network tracing and logging tasks with only limited specialized knowledge of HP-UX. nettladm is a self-guided tool, and context-sensitive help is available at any point by pressing the f1 function key."
