Re: Telnet Problem......

Hi Jai,

Is it any quicker if you use the IP address of the R390 rather than the hostname?

If so you may have a host name resolution (DNS?)problem.

Re: Telnet Problem......

If you have a hostname resolution problem : try nslookup & nslookup differnces, do they resolve correctly ?

If a networking problem try ping >

Re: Telnet Problem......

Are your 2 machines on the same network?
I not on same network you may have some routing trouble.
whats in is your /etc/rc.config.d/netconf ?
Are you using DNS? can be ill...
So have you configured /etc/nsswitch.conf=>
hosts: files [NOTFOUND=CONTINUE] dns

...
Good luck

Re: Telnet Problem......

I had a similar problem at one stage, it turned out the server I was trying to connect to was behind a firewall that was stopping its dns lookups.

When you telnet to a server it will do a reverse lookup on the IP address of the machine you are telneting from before it will allow the connection to establish, this reverse lookup doesn't have to succeed, but will have to time out if the dns doesn't respond at all.

The easy solution in my case was to allow the dns lookups through the firewall.

Re: Telnet Problem......

There are also some hanging problems that can be related to patches. PHNE_16546 fixed a problem with "telnet connection hanging" on 11.0. PHNE_21822 is the latest superceding patch, PHNE_19298 is the recommended patch. Check your telnet patches on both sides of the connection.
