Trouble with Xwindows on J5000 workstation
I've loaded hpux 11.11 on a J5000 w/s. I chose the "take the default options and go" installation method. All installs fine and Xwindows comes up great during the time it needs to ask me about network params. But once I finish filling in the blanks, Xwindows works no more.
I get a gray background with a black X in the middle, and that's all. No login screen. I can't even shut the box down, except by hitting the power button on the front panel.
Can anyone point me in the right direction for troubleshooting? I've booted into single user mode and edited the inittab file to give a runlevel of 2. So now I have a character screen instead of a gui. I'd really like to fix Xwindows.
Thanks in advance.

Re: Trouble with Xwindows on J5000 workstation
have you checked the error logs?
What's in /etc/rc.log if you go to init 3?
Any messages in /var/adm/syslog/syslog.log or OLDsyslog.log?
Also check the logs in /var/dt/Xerrors and
/var/X11/Xserver/logs.
Do you have a graphics card inside?
About Xwindows configuration, I think you get more infos in the hp-ux forum:

Re: Trouble with Xwindows on J5000 workstation
It was my networking. Networking wasn't exactly right, so X didn't work. I booted to single user mode, and changed the /etc/inittab runlevel entry from 3 to 2, then rebooted into character mode.
From there I fixed the networking issue, and changed runlevel back to 3.
Now X works.
