Re: X on colsole defunct

Try running

/sbin/init.d/xlogin stop
/sbin/init.d/xlogin start

Re: X on colsole defunct

Well, thank you for your fast reply, but i didn't work either.
I'm sorry for my typo: coNsole.

There must be an error somewhere in the X-files (!), which defines the parameters for the console display. Where should i look?

Yours sincerely,

Re: X on colsole defunct

When the problem started?

If you replaced the monitor with a low resolution one, you should configure the vsync option in:

/usr/dt/config/Xservers

* Local local@console /usr/bin/X11/X -vsync0 60 :0

Hello, is there any error message on
/var/dt/Xerrors? can you share the error message with us.

Re: X on colsole defunct

No there isn't any messages in Xerror.
What i have establised is that X11 daemon
isn't running. I'm investigating that matter.
There could be a problem with hardware configuration, but where?

Re: X on colsole defunct

UPDATE!
i've got xdm running istead of cde. But this is not a cdsl program (i do not how to do it, can it be done? xdm-pid).

So the problem is related to cde and it's
configuration. Any ideas?

Re: X on colsole defunct

Thor,

Are you sure you are running XDM:

Execute this command to find out for sure:

# /usr/sbin/rcmgr get XLOGIN

If it comes back as xdm, then you are correct, but if it comes back as "cde", then of course CDE is the currently selected GUI.

If you have xdm running, then your log files will be written to the directory:

/usr/lib/X11/xdm/xdm-errors

Whereas if you are using CDE, then your Xserver log file is located:

/var/dt/Xerrors

When you attempt to execute /sbin/init.d/xlogin start

Do you get any errors back when you execute that command?

At this point, there could be a number of reasons why it suddently stopped working, but the best thing to do is to try and force a error out of the startup of X.

In case if the windowing environment is set to XDM, then run ├в xsetup├в to change it to CDE.

Re: X on colsole defunct

Thank you all for guiding me into the solution! when reading the file Xconfig, i've found this note:
"If you do not specify a full path beginning with a "/" dtlogin will first search for the following files in
/etc/dt/config then in /usr/dt/config."

And there it was: the Xconfig in /etc/dt/config was different than the one in /usr/dt/config. renaming the /etc/dt/config folder and restarting solved the problem.
