Re: resolv.conf

Hi

I assume you are asking about how many
nameserver entries can be put into /etc/resolv.conf.

The answer is simple. Current standards
for resolver state that up 3 nameservers
may be listed, one per keyword

Re: resolv.conf

Hi,

The answer is 3 for one key word
From Man resolv.conf

nameserver :- Internet (IP) address, in dot notation, of a name server that the resolver should query. Up to
MAXNS (currently 3) name servers can be listed, one per keyword. If there are multiple servers, the resolver library queries them in the order listed. If no nameserver entries are present, the default is to use the name server on the loca machine.
===========================
A typcal /etc/resolv.conf file lists two name servers. If one name server fails to respond, the resolver queries the slave name server, which should still be functioning at this point. The
query to the second name server should succeed and respond back with corp├в s IP address.

The file resembles the following:

domain div.inc.com
nameserver 15.19.8.119
nameserver 15.19.8.197
