firmware update cd-writer 7200e

Hello everybody,

does anybody know why the firmware update (there is currently only one available) needs the original software (cd 1) to be installed? Actually I would like to use a different software (Roxio's WinOnCD, which supports the 7200e drive). Is it possible to a) install the original software, b) install the firmware update, c) remove the original software and d) install WinOnCD? Or does the firmware update mean that the drive will only yet be working with the original software? Does the update write anything to the drive's ROM or is it just a software-update? HP semms not to state anything about how the new firmware is working.

Another issue: After the shuttle driver is installed, booting the computer (hp vectra ve5, P133, Windows 95 OSR 2.0)lasts roughly twice as long as before - is anybody familiar with that and knows how to fix it?

Thanks to you and greetings from Germany!

Actually, you only need to have the original software installed when flashing the firmware. After flashing the firmware, you can uninstall the original software and use the software you prefer.

Hello Jani,

thanks for your reply. Are you talking from experience - I mean: Are you sure? Thanks a lot.
