9100 CD-Writer and Win2k

hey! i have a bit of a prob. (Boy is that an understatement ;) I have a HP CD-Writer 9100 that runs DirectCD and adaptec for it's writing software. it is incompatible with win2k, and has messed up my registry. Adaptec has a file online that is supposed to 'reset' the registry to it's defaults. My computer won't accept this file. can any of u help? cuz i don't want to reformat again! (srry i've lost count of how many times i've had to do that...) ANY HELP WOULD BE APPRECIATED
