DVD200i in an external USB 2.0 Case

DVD200i in an external USB 2.0 Case

I am trying to move my DVD200i to an external USB 2.0 Case but for some reason it is not recognized by Windows 2000 Pro or XP. It loads as a USB Mass storage device with an exclamation on it. I tried just a cd rom drive and it worked just fine and was detected normally. I updated the DVD200i to the latest firmware and that didn't help. Any ideas as to why this drive wouldn't recognize in an external case? (it does still work if I put in internal but can't do that to my laptop.)
