UDO standalone drive 30ux couldn't work in Windows2k

Hi All.
We've got a HP standalone UDO drive 30ux (AA961). After unpacking, windows2k drivers installing, cabling, turning on I can see properly recognized drive in OS. We've done ALL required steps (from official HP install guide) including appropriate patches rolling. But...
- I can't see UDO media! While loading media drive shortly blinking with doubled leds and thats all activity. I see "Removable media (F:)" in "My Computer" and after right-click on it I wait for 20-30 secs until Properties menu appears. If I click "Format ..." then after 20-30 secs delay I've got warning message that there is no diskette in Drive!!! Also I've got a lot of "disk errors" in system log.
It's my first time with UDO drive so I'm a bit confused.

Hi,

It seems that the media is not recognised.
I presume you have installed the UDO/UDF drivers , all required patches ,SP 4
and using the supported media ( HP 30GB Rewritable )

You can try by
1. Disconnect the drive
2. Disable RSM ( Removable Storage Manager )
3. Reboot the system
4. Attach the drive now

Re: UDO standalone drive 30ux couldn't work in Windows2k

We've done all recommended actions including SP4 and other patches. UDO driver (SAI tools) has version 1.0.5. Also we tried Win2k3 - the same results. While using LTT tools I see Drive is OK (Test Passed), but all Read/write tests are failed.
It looks like drive can't execute IOs on the UDO media. I can't hear dikette spining noise.
I believe media is OK cause I tried 3 or 4 from 20. Any ideas ?

Hi,

Did you try the RSM option as I told before?
Which media you are using? Is it WORM or Rewritable?
Do you know the firmware version of the drive?
For WORM, firmware upgrade is required.
If everything looks OK , then there is a possiblilty the drive
is DOA .Contact the vendor/dealer for warranty support.

Sure
> Which media you are using? Is it WORM or Rewritable?
Both (HP UDO media)
> Do you know the firmware version of the drive?
3.0.2
> For WORM, firmware upgrade is required.
What version is required for WORM?

What does it mean - DOA?

Re: UDO standalone drive 30ux couldn't work in Windows2k

For UDO Compliant WORM , you need
firmware version 3.0.3

The firmware bundle to be used with LTT is available at
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareIndex.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodNameId=415796&prodTypeId=12169&prodSeriesId=434454&swLang=8&taskId=135&swEnvOID=181#29154

DOA - Defective On Arrival

Re: UDO standalone drive 30ux couldn't work in Windows2k

Thank you Sameer.
It seems to me the point is in firware/driver interface. One more question: are there any cases of 30ux usage in Solaris/Linux? Am I right that the main difference from other block devices (e.g. HD, MO) is fixed 8k sector size?
Is it possible to enable this device in any UNIX but HP-UX?
