5406zl - how is the date and time set via Windoze GUI?

I can't find anywhere within the Windoze GUI to set the time and date of our new 5406zl switch. The items listed in the event log show 2005 timestamps. Searching the internet has revealed nothing useful. Anyone know how to do it assuming the switch has the ability to store the current time and date while it is powered up. if not, how does it determine a date stamp for events in the log? Thanks in advance.

Hi Steve,

As far as I've been able to work out, no HP switch has a permanent clock, so it must be set on boot (preferably via NTP).  There should be a setting for this in the basic setup of the switch.  If you don't set the clock on startup, it starts from a time well before the switch's manufacturing date (2001? 1990? - I think this varies from model to model).

Yeah, I seem to get 1990 from memory.

Re: 5406zl - how is the date and time set via Windoze GUI?

Sample time settings from a 5400:

time daylight-time-rule user-defined begin-date 10/01 end-date 04/01
time timezone 600
timesync sntp
sntp unicast
sntp server priority 1 172.20.100.154

Setting for Australia (southern hemisphere), and .154 is a windows box with NTP running

Sample log entry for a time update:

I 08/08/13 15:53:25 00413 SNTP: Updated time by 90 seconds from server at 172.20.100.154.Previous time was Thu Aug 8 15:51:38 2013.Current time is Thu Aug 8 15:53:08 2013.

I thought at least some of the higher end ProCurve switches do have a clock on board. It looks like this 2900 has only changed the time minimally. You should always have timesync enabled though.

The GUI never has the full set of commands available to the CLI!

Silly me thought spending over $7,000 for a super smart computering device would mean it'd be able to do a reasonable job at keeping the time at least as good as a $5 kids watch can!... go figure.

If the switch loses power, there's more than the clock resetting to worry about. Thanks folks.
