Firmware Update HP J4899A ProCurve Switch 2650

Yes, I am wanting to update the firmware on our two HP J4899A ProCurve Switch 2650 switches, and have a question regarding versions.

We are currently running the following firmware / bootrom version:

H.07.02, ROM H.07.01

According to the website, the intermediate update H.08.98 is only for H.07.31, H.07.32 or H.07.40 to H.08.100 or later. Does this mean we are unable to update our firmware to version H.10.83, or really any other firmware for that fact?

Also, do we need to update the MIB? If so, how do you go about doing that? Is there any benefit to it?

Hi Craig

Not as bad as you think :). If you look at the release notes you will see you will just ave to update first to an intermediate release.

From the release notes you find
ProCurve Switches 2626/J4900A and 2650/J4899A) When updating from Software versions H.07.31, H.07.32 or H.07.40 to
H.08.100 or later, you must first update and boot the switch using version H.08.98. Otherwise, the update will fail.

The OIDS for SNMP will get updated on the switch. The updated MIB will be for you to interpret them.

Thanks for the response. I am aware that I need to update to an intermediate update, but there in lies the issue. The release notes for H.08.98 stats it is only for firmware versions H.07.31, H.07.32 or H.07.40 to H.08.100 or later. We currently have, what I am guessing to the be original firmware version, H.07.02, which isn't one of the listed versions to update from. Based on this information, that means I can't update the firmware, unless I am reading the release notes incorrectly?

I grabbed a copy of the H.08.98 release notes. There is no restriction. You can use it for your build.

Yes H.07.02 is the initial release.
