Multicast in E5406zl and E2610 switches

Could anybody help me  I need to Know how activate multicast on 5406 zl  and E2610  switches

Hi,

 

it depends on which layer do you want to use multicast on these switches. E5406zl can handle multicast at L3 by configuring PIM protocol (Sparse or Dense mode). If you have older chassis, you have to have premium license installed or if you have buy this chassis recently it will probably have premium license in base. Both E5406zl and E2610 can handle multicast at L2 by configuring "ip igmp" in vlan context.

If the multicast is in the same VLAN (source and destination) then you will only need to enable "IGMP" under that VLAN in all the switches that will participate in the multicast delivery, use the command "ip igmp" under the vlan context.

If the multicast is between 2 VLANs then you will need to use multicast routing (PIM) and you will need premium license on the 5406zl switch for that.
