Multicast question

We have been trying to use multicasting with SCCM 2012 without much luck. Actually we tried to use it with 2007 as well but gave up.

In looking into it again, it appears that I need to enable ip routing. Unfortunately our switches are simply trunked back to our core switch. Is this a requirement?

Has anyone put together a guide for System Center Configuration Manager?

Re: Multicast question

I have SCCM being used for about 1000 users on a Procurve network I installed.

If it wasn't working, I'm sure they would tell me.

This network consists of a couple of dozen access switches (Layer-2 only) trunked back to the core, where all IP routing is done. Sounds similar to yours.

As far as Multicasting goes, you need to

 - enable "ip multicast-routing" on the Layer-3 switch(es)

 - enable IGMP ("ip igmp"), per VLAN,

 - configure each of the access switches to NOT be the querier.

I think for SCCM, you need "ip arp-mcast-replies" on your Layer-3 switch(es).

Re: Multicast question

Sounds like our setup. I'll check our settings again. I know that the layer 2 switches likely still have the querier enabled.

Re: Multicast question

When enabling PIM routing you must reboot your switch.
