ProCurve 2910al-24G Firmware Upgrade

We currently run two dedicated HP ProCurve 2910al-24G switches for our iSCSI SAN.  The firmware both these switches are on is Firmware Version - W.14.38 / ROM - W.14.04.  I see W.15.08.0012 is the latest out.

Q1 - If I upgrade to the new firmware from our current version, will the switch be reset and lose its current settings?  Do I need to save the config / then restore the config after the firmware upgrade?  What is the correct process?

Q2 - Should I upgrade straight to W.15?

Q3 - Will upgrading with this firmware image, upgrade the ROM as well?

Q4 - Should I just leave the switches as is?

Thanks

JH

Re: ProCurve 2910al-24G Firmware Upgrade

Hi JH,

In my opinion, it is generally a good idea to migrate to the latest version after it has been out a month or two, unless it is to fix an urgent security issue, in which case i would do it sooner.

Generally a new firmware will come with an embedded boot ROM update if one is required. However, after a train has been released for some time, HP typically stops shipping the boot ROM in later versions. The best way to be sure about this is to read the release notes for the firmware - they will tell you if you need to upgrade to a previous version first.

Paul
