Hey everybody, 

is there a cli command if a lan cabble is plugged into a port

even if this port is shown as down (no active component on other side). link-test isn t helpfull because i don t have a mac adress.

If the port isn't up, then there is no electrical activity on that port. To detect if something was inserted into that port, you would need a mechanical switch inside each switchport.

The way I've usually managed switchports and patching, every now and then I clear all switchport statistics and then give it about 4-6 weeks. After that time, any switchport that has not seen any frames, I mark down as "vacant", whether anything is patched to it or not.
