FW&SS-Update Proliant DL380 G5 in Prep. for Enclosure
Hello,
for the first time I'm gonna install a 418800-B21 MSA 70 SAS Rack Enclosure on our eldest G5 in conjunction with a 462832-B21 P411 SAS 512MB with *BBWC*.
On this machine there is a Win2k3 Server 32bit installed, Tools (like ACU) and Drivers came from the SmartStart-CD of late 2007, same age is the firmware of the machine/components. I did d/l the latest FW-DVD (FW910C.2010_0819.4.iso) and SmartStart-CD (SS850.2010_0526.99-x86.iso) but I'm a little afraid as this is a very important machine, ofcourse I will image and backup in advance - I know the FW-Upgrade-Process which always did run smooth with other machines, but there wasn't such a huge upgrade-gap in between.
Here my questions:
1. FW-Update: It'll be safe ?
2. Will the enclosure be upgraded by FW910C.2010_0819.4.iso, too ?
3. SmartStart: Never updated that one - this what I imagine it'll be: Insert the CD while on OS, upgrade drivers inkl. tools, reboot - safe ? The driver for the enclosure-controller will come with this update then, too ?
4. The Enclosure-Drives can be configured through the controller, which will give me a bios-post to enter configuration ?
Answers greatly appreciated, thanks heaps !
