Broken Smart Array 642 how to substitute it wothout loosing data?

Good Morning,

we have an old ML350 G3 with a failed SA 642 (or at least we think it is), some drives are in bad but restarting the server the drives in bad changes. We thouhgt it was a controller problem.

We are now waiting for a controller (the server is out of warranty) and looking information about haw to change it, possibly without loosing logical partitions.

Have, some of you, idea if there is the possibility to keep the old configuration without loosing data and if yes what should we do to change the controller.

Thanks.

Bye,
Giovanni

giovanni,

just replace the failing sa controller , the configuration info about the arrays is held on the drives themselves. but do ensure you replace with at least the same or compatible controller with support for the same raid levels as currently.

hope this helps

good luck
