DL160 G6 Windows Volume Activation Issue

Hi There

I have a DL160 G6 which is running Server 2008 R2.  We are using KMS as our activation method, however when I attempt to activate windows I get the error:

The Software Licensing Service reported that the computer could not be activated with a Volume license product key. Volume licensed systems require upgrading from a qualified operating system. Please contact your system administrator or use a different type of key.

On further investigation I found that this is probably due to the SLIC table in the BIOS being set to 2.0 (Vista and Server 2008) rather than 2.1 (Windows 7 and Server 2008 R2).  I have updated all of the firmware and BIOS with no joy.  I can't see any manual way of changing this either.

Can anyone offer any insight into this?

Thanks

Re: DL160 G6 Windows Volume Activation Issue

So the First Question is: the OS is from HP or no?

if it's from HP so you don't need product Key because it's an OEM version and the Product Key is taged on system Board and must be Activated automatically.

Re: DL160 G6 Windows Volume Activation Issue

I can confirm the BIOS version is HP O33 01/10/2012 and the serial number is coded into the motherboard.  I'm guessing as the serial number matches the chassis that the motherboard is the original?

Many thanks

Re: DL160 G6 Windows Volume Activation Issue

Can you please download and run MGADiag Microsoft utility from the link http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=52012

Run it, go to a Windows tab and click Copy button.

Paste info txt file and find lines looking like

OEM Activation 2.0 Data-->
BIOS valid for OA 2.0: Yes
Windows marker version: 0x20001
OEMID and OEMTableID Consistent: Yes

 And post them here.

Re: DL160 G6 Windows Volume Activation Issue

So it seems that this isn't one isolated machine.  It appears to be across multiple.
