Re: DL360 G5 P400i BBWC Battery Died?
Hi Jimmy.
The firmware will not have an impact on the array, it should boot fine regardless of the current setup (with the specific exception of RAID6).
If I remember correctly, the 1.1x or 1.2x firmware came on my last replacement board a couple of years back (I run 2008R2 and CEntOS 5) and only had to upgrade from the OS.
Install the replacement controller, boot to OS, Upgrade the firmware, and see what the ACU reports.
Cheers
Leon

Re: DL360 G5 P400i BBWC Battery Died?
Hi Skotte,
Same result, the battery still report the same error!
So I am don't think it is the P400i logic board and the cache and the cable problems there, since the sales give me full set for replace.
And I am failed upgrade it Firmware after reboot to the Server 08 R2, whatever the latest 7.24 or 4.xx, 5.xx, so final I go back the shop ask them give me the old one I exchange to this old old FW version one.
And they final give me one more battery this time, so I try again the battery they give to me, this time I smart more, take the photo on the battery, since I just discovered it have LED light on it after power it.
Here are the photo I taked
http://explorerhome.dyndns.org/q/HPBattery.jpg
Hope this who know the led mean can give me some suggestion, and if possible, who using same battery can take a photo for me reference what the LED light look like when your battery is no problems (All four LED green?)
Thank you of your time and help.
Best Regards,
Jimmy Chan

Re: DL360 G5 P400i BBWC Battery Died?
Hi Jimmy,
The Lights are a follows:
LED1 (Green) - Power LED 12V this indicates 12v system power is available.
LED2 (Green) - Power LED 3.3v this indicates 3.3v auxiliary power is available.
LED3 (Amber) - Battery health.
LED4 (Green) - BBWC status.
LED 3 solid amber indicates a short circuit exists within the battery or accross the terminals.
Generally it indicates that the cells are dead, or the cable shielding has failed.
LED 3 flashing amber indicates an open circuit exists within the battery or accross the terminals.
Check the connections, if you have an ohm meter, check the cable.
It looks like you have received 2 dead batteries, the general life expectancy of these is 3+ years.
Cheers

SolutionThe P410/512 FBWC with supercap is easy to get on ebay and will plop right in and go.
It is far faster at raid-5/6 but not so much faster at raid-10. Except the cache is DDR2 instead of DDR and no more battery problems ever again.
For G6/G7 I replace the P410's with P420/1g FBWC and no more batteries. I bet $50 the p420 would work in the G5 as well. Just need to keep it cool and replace their heatsink goop with some artic silver ;)

Re: DL360 G5 P400i BBWC Battery Died?
Sbrown,
One more questions,
What is the P/N of the P410/512M BBWC?
Thank you very very much and you teach me a lot, and share your experience.
Best Regards,

Re: DL360 G5 P400i BBWC Battery Died?
Hi Jimmy,
The part number for the P410 with 512mb BBWC is 462864-B21.
One note.
G5's have SFF-8484 ports whereas G6 and above use the smaller SFF-8087 ports internally.
You will need a SAS SFF-8087 to SFF 8484 cable to make this work.
HP don't officially have a SKU for a conversion cable, but you should be able to find something on ebay or amazon.
Cheers
