DL360 G6 - Smart Storage Administrator message

We've loaded a DL360 G6 with Windows Server 2012 R2.  When we add a second logical drive in the Smart Storage Administrator, the following message is displayed, "The logical full stripe size exceeds the transformation capabilities of this controller: Expansion, migration, and other operations may not be available for this logical drive or its parent array."  The server has eight 146 GB drives in it.  Seven of the drives are in the array with the eighth configured as a spare.  The server is running SSA version 2.20.11.0.

Does anyone know if this message is a problem and/or how to correct it?

Thanks,

David

Re: DL360 G6 - Smart Storage Administrator message

We are getting the same problem on DL380 G5 and a DL380G9. Does anyone have any explanations for this or a resolution?

You do have the option of ignoring the error and carrying on but we need to know what the potential implications could be.

The 2 versions of Smart Storage Administrator software that have been causing this for us are: SPP 2015-06 and SPP2015-10. Earlier versions didn't seem to have this problem.

Thanks.

Re: DL360 G6 - Smart Storage Administrator message

We logged the call. HP explained that this error is because there is no battery backed cache upgrade installed. This is required for additional RAID features. Referred us to page 2 of the P400 QuickSpecs manual, see below.

So this error can be ignored if you don't need the additional RAID expansion and migration features.
