DL360 SCSI vs SATA

Try to make a choice between the SCSI and SATA for DL360. I believe the SCSI is better. But still want to know: How significant is the performance differ. between the SCSI and the SATA ?

Thanks

Re: DL360 SCSI vs SATA

Scott:

SCSI is definitely better. (usually)

The major differences would be that the SATA drives are not really meant for High Perfomance, High Utilization, always on environments. They spin slower than SCSI drives and have a lower tested Duty Cycle that determines it's MTBU/MTBF.

SCSI drives generally spin faster and have higher reliability rating. As for performance, you might not notice much difference in a 2 drive setup since the Dl360 only has 2 slots for drives.

In larger systems like an MSA20 vs. and MSA30, you would definitely notice (or should) some significant perfomrance incease using SCSI vs. SATA.

Re: DL360 SCSI vs SATA

when using scsi drives in a random i/o environment scsi performs 2 to 2.5 times better than ata.

especially when the number of drives is low (2 mirrored drives in dl360) you profit from scsi.

if the disks are a bottleneck the money for fast processors is not well invested.

Re: DL360 SCSI vs SATA

SATA has 150 MB/s
SCSI has 360 MB/s

So, if you want performance, you should choose SCSI.
