Hi,

Please ensure that same processors are installed, if this is an addition of processor.

Re: DL380 G6 using X5690

Hi,

The servers QuickSpecs indicate that processor X5690 is not supported. The highest supported is X5670. This indicates that X5690 has not been tested, and hence cannot be concluded that this would work when installed.

Re: DL380 G6 using X5690

Hi,

Though the advisory contains both HP ProLiant DL380 G6 Server and processor X5690, this does not indicate that they are supported. This is for other servers in which they can be installed.

Re: DL380 G6 using X5690

The X5690 is a 130W TDP processor.  The DL380 G6 supported CPU's max out at the X5670 which is 95W TDP.

If I had to guess, I'd say that the X5690 is asking for more power than the regulator on the mainboard can provide, or it's simply being rejected as an invalid option based on some signalling during the startup.

The DL360 G7 and DL380 G7 were kind of the same, except with those you could order a 130W TDP cpu using the CTO option only (must be a different motherboard for those).  That's the only way to get a G7 with a X5690.

Looks like the fastest chip you can get would be an X5675 since that's still 95W.  It's not much faster than an X5670 (3.07 GHz compared to 2.93 GHz) so it comes down to price.

The X5679 is 115W and might work but it's just 3.2 GHz and when you consider that it's turbo modes are more limited, you'd probably get the same performance from an X5670 configured for max performance in the ROM options.  And I don't imagine it would work with 115W cpus anyway.

EDIT: By the way, that advisory you linked to mentions the X5675 as one of the CPU's affected, and that's the only one that would apply to a DL380 G6.  I guess that's why they included that system in the advisory.
