DL380p G8 & DL380 G7 RAM UPGRADE

Hi,

We have two ProLiant servers (DL380p G8 and DL380 G7). Both of them are running Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 Enterprise 64-bit.

DL380p G8 running with 8 x 16 GB = 128GB RAM (Model Samsung m393b2g70bh0-ck0) and we are planning to added RAM.As the server is running with only one processor, we are limited to 12 RDIMM slot instead of 24 (as peer the Specs Doc). Hence we are thinking to add more RAM by removing all 16GB and getting new 32GB.

DL380 G7 currently running 4 x 4 GB=16GB RAM (Model MT36jszf51272pz-1g4g1) and also we are planning to added more RAM. Our idea now is to use the 16GB’s removed from DL380p G8 and insert them into DL380 G7.

I appreciate your help if someone can confirm that this will work.

Thank you and best regards.

M.A

Hi,

Refer to G7 QuickSpecs.

http://www8.hp.com/h20195/v2/getpdf.aspx/c04199811.pdf

Both the memory modules are different specs, hence cannot use it in G7.

M393B2G70BH0-CK0  = 16GB PC3-12800 DDR3-1600MHz ECC Registered CL11 240-Pin DIMM Dual Rank Memory Module
MT36JSZF51272PZ-1G4G1 = 4GB PC3-10600 DDR3-1333MHz ECC Registered CL9 240-Pin DIMM Dual Rank Memory Module

Thank You!
