Re: DL385G7 offering poor performance
We have EXACTLY the same problem Gary.
Our Setup is:
New Server:
DL 385 G7 with 2 Opteron 6128 (16 Cores)
64 GB Ram
P410i/256 with BBU
2 different Disk Volumes for System (2x 72 GB 10k) and Database (2x 120 GB HP SSD)
Old Server:
DL 360 G6 with 1 Intel E5520 (4 Cores)
8 GB Ram
P410i/256 with BBU
2 different Disk Volumes for System (2x 72 GB 10k) and Database (4x 72GB 15k GB Raid 10)
we are running Mysql 5.5 and have huge performance issues on the new server. it seems that the performance on one single core is about 70% slower than on the old server.
today we migrated to the new server and after getting this problems we just took out the disks and put them in the old server where the performance instantly was much better...
our technicans just now began to analyze the problem. but we can now say that its _NOT_ a problem with the disks and/or the p410. it seems that the cpu is much more slower than it should be.
what we will do now:
- testing with newest linux kernel
- try different cpu benchmarks to specify the problems core
- playing with different bios settings
if anybody got any results, please post them here.
thank you,
Florian from www.easyname.eu

Re: DL385G7 offering poor performance
UPDATE:
we did test several things now and came to the conculsion that the problems seems to only occur if the server has more than 12GB of ram. could you please also test if a lower amount of ram solves the issue for you?
thank you,
florian

Re: DL385G7 offering poor performance
Hi, so far any news on this issue ? What is the performance on this servers ? If I do a simple test just I can get 154 MB/s
[root@ovm OVS]# dd if=/dev/zero of=test bs=1024 count=4024k
4120576+0 records in
4120576+0 records out
4219469824 bytes (4.2 GB) copied, 27.3979 seconds, 154 MB/s
now, the server what I have is the server DL385G7 high end. 1G cache with the battery so that bit is sorted. But my velociraptor what I have on my desktop deliver a similar performance, on transfer... maybe is a issue with the firmware os the controller P410i, disks or mobo..... not sure....

Re: DL385G7 offering poor performance
We are having the same problems with DL385G7 Opteron 6128 + Postgre SQL.
We are looking to try some BIOS option.
Once we have the key we will post.
