DVD drive in Proliant ML350 G3

We trying to change the LG CDROM drive with a TEAC DVD-RW one to be able to make nightly DVD-RW backups with Nero BackItUp software.

The original CD drive is set to cableselect position, and works as master too.

With the DVD drive the ML350 doesn't boot at all, red led lights.

Is it possible that I cannot change the drive with a non-compaq (LG) one?

Re: DVD drive in Proliant ML350 G3

Hi,

There were some fixes for CD issues in the ML350G3 BIOS dated 10/23/2004. I would suggest loading the latest BIOS to see if this helps.

It can be found at the following link.

I hope this helps.

Sorry,

That previous link was for the ML350G4 BIOS.

The G3 BIOS can be downloaded from here.

I apologise for any confusion.

Re: DVD drive in Proliant ML350 G3

I have the latest RBSU firmware, and updated the DVD's firmware to the latest too.

Still no success neither with TEAC DV-W58G nor with TEAC DV-W516G...

Server boots with it's original LG drive and boots without it, too...

still tryin'....

Re: DVD drive in Proliant ML350 G3

Hi,

Do you have enough room to fit the DVD-RW as a slave to the original drive, set as master? I.E, two drives installed.

If this works you should still be able to boot from CD but install your software to backup to the DVD-RW.

Just a thought.

Re: DVD drive in Proliant ML350 G3

Have probed with two drives too, but the same happens: monitor is blank, proliant doesn't POST at all and the red error-led is blinking.

I have Win2k AdvServer installed, don't want to boot from cd.

It just don't accept the non-factory drive at all.. tomorrow will tryin' to change the original drive with a commercial OEM LG one, I supppose the mainboard accepts any LG brand optical drive, or the original drive says about itself something special in its firmware....
