Dl380 Gen9 LFF storage upgrade to 12 drives

Hi all,

I have a DL380p Gen9 LFF model (766342-B21) which has the standard 4 bayLFF  backplane board. I need to upgrade the storage to take at least 8 drives. I cannot find any details relating to this and the quick specs state that this cannot be upgraded in the field.

I did find an HP DL380- Gen9 spare parts list.

http://h20564.www2.hpe.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?docId=emr_na-c04438854

The 12 bay packplane board is listed in this along with the part number.

12-LFF backplane board (777284-001)

Can I simply remove the old 4 bay backplane board and fit a 12 bay backlane board? I assume I will need to install a Smart Array P440ar Controller to support 12 drives. I also expect that the data on the server will be lost in the process but this is a backup server and I will need to replace it if I cannot upgrade its storage anyway.

Has anybody done this before or know if it's possible? Or know if it definitely cannot be done?

Thanks you

NK

Did you resolve this issue?  I am trying to do the exact same thing.

Hi Dan,

I never managed to get the server upgraded to unlock the additional 8 bays. We took the extreme option of replacing the server instead.
